Haiti Jolted with Earthquake of 7.3 Richter Scale

In the weirdest of weird cases, a powerful earthquake jolted the people of Haiti. This powerful earthquake measuring 7.3 in Richter scale has caused untold miseries on the residents of this island. The entire Caribbean islands are badly hit by this earthquake and there has been a lot of destruction and devastation in Port-Au-Prince; which is the capital of the Haiti. The earthquake was so violent that its tremors were felt till the depth of 10 km.
Although frequent earthquakes do occur in Haiti but the people of this island has never experienced such a violent earthquake before. Property worth millions seems to be damaged due to this earthquake. Earlier it was said that a Tsunami worth 7.3 Richter is approaching the Caribbean islands but later on the people were relieved to find that the Tsunami was degraded to a quake. The earthquakes hit the islands around 4 p.m. local time on 12th January, 2010.
The major public places of Haiti are badly disfigured and almost all the buildings have received serious damage. Being one of the poorest nations of America, this earthquake has further worsened their infrastructure. Not only this, thousands of people are feared to have died and many more are still under the debris of the buildings. Till now the authorities have not claimed the exact number of dead bodies but looking at this devastating earthquake, the figure would be nerve wracking. At present there is absolute havoc over there and it would really take some time to calm their nerves.
