USA Registers Win In Their Opening Match Against Netherlands

USA registered their first win against Netherlands in their opening Softball World Cup tournament. The game was held at Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City on 16th of this month. The game had started one hour late than the scheduled time due to bad weather conditions. USA had made (13-0, 1-0) against Netherlands (1-1, 7-2). The credit of wining this match goes to Leles and all round performance from the pitcher Jennie Finch. In the 3rd innings, Leles committed two back to back fielding errors which resulted in an RBI which allowed Netherlands an unearned run. But in the 5th innings, Leles improved her hitting to 3-3. Finch also went 3 for 3 and contributing in the USA win over Netherlands. Team USA has their next match tomorrow at 7:00 pm against Italy.
The other games of the day include:-
- Australia defeated the Olympics Champions of 2008 i.e. Japan by 5-2 in the team’s 1st game of the tournament. Japan’s (0-1) was no problem for Australia (1-0) in the KFC World Cup of Softball.
- Netherlands defeated Italy by 6-2 in their opening match of KFC World Cup. Kirsten Schelle struck out seven batters over 4 innings to register the win against Italy.
- The game between Italy and Canada at Amateur Softball Association (ASA) hall was postponed due to bad weather conditions. The game will again resume on Saturday. Till postponement, Italy was leading 3-0 against Canada after a home run by Kaitlyn Gentile.
